It's been around since before your mother was born and it looks it; if your mother had extensive plastic surgery. Not like it looks as if it's been added to and grossly exaggerated. It looks like the grand theater, ok maybe not so grand, but it's a charming single screen movie theater that screens first run big movies. And in the marquee below the films logo the director is always listed. As if you needed to know who directed Phantom Menace or Kill Bill.

Speaking of which, I've seen a bunch of movies at the Vista, 2 Star Wars prequels included(I was in Amsterdam for Episode 3- drats! and a few Quentin Tarantino movies.

Let me just say this: The Vista WAS the DEFINITIVE place to watch the Rodriguez/Tarantino/mish-mash directors efforts that collectively came together to form Grindhouse. Actually any Tarantino movie should be seen at the Vista because of the retro/rock vibe of the neighborhood.

Sure you could have caught it up the street on the dome at the Arclight.

But does a movie(s) like Grindhouse deserve that grand, hi-tech treatment?
Hell no.

Grindhouse was best viewed at The Vista because of the age of the theater and the aged, ragged attempted nature of the Grindhouse experience.

You didn't need 3-D glasses because the Vista provided the added dimension.

The annoying teenager issue a problem with the AMC Burbank 16 in Burbank. The Theaters themselves have been renovated a few years ago so they are very nice. But again, this is also a theater that attracts a huge teenage crowd so I only really go here when other theaters arent available. For example, if other theaters arent showing a certain movie or are sold out.

A pretty decent multiplex is the Pacific Galleria 16 in Sherman Oaks. The main 2 Theaters are pretty massive with great seating. The rest of the 14 theaters however are pretty small. A slight problem however is that it does attract a fairly large high school crowd and we all know how bad that can be.

During a screening of The Village, the front row had about 5 incredibly annoying teenagers who kept talking and pointing a laser pointer at the screen during the opening credits. for those of you who have not seen or dont remember, the opening credits for The Village are set in front of a very bright white background if I remember properly. Suddenly a few rows in front of a man suddenly stands with intense purpose in his body language. Its very obvious that he is NOT just going to the bathroom. he marches to the front of the theater and up to the 5 kids who can bee seen as a silhouette of 5 annoying heads taking back and forth. The once proud and obnoxious teenagers suddenly shrink in unison into their chairs. The man points at each of them and says: "Which on of you is talking?" They each timidly raise their hands. The mans leans into each of their faces and says: "SHUT...THE FUCK...UP!" and returns to his seat. Everyone was quite happy with that and I started an applause for the man that the entire theater shared in.

Auditorium 11. Large 800+ seat theater. Very large screen. (Much too large for seats in front third of theater.)

Sounds was quality was average. (Auditorium #8 at this theater is usually way too loud- at or near pain threshold.) Picture quality was also average. Plenty of leg room and comfortable seats.

Price was good $5.75 for matinee. $8 regular price.

Plenty of free parking even for busy saturday afternoons and evenings. I award this theater a B. Nothing was wrong with this showing with a couple of positive points.

Price $10.50; average for major city. Multiple concession stands open. Short or no lines at time of showing. (10pm)

Picture was in focus. Film had a few scratches/ blemishes. Sound was excellent although soundtrack was not very demanding.

Seating was comfortable stadium style layout with no middle aisle. Theater was tidy but could have been cleaner.

Ample parking and convenient freeway access. For an aging (10 years) multiplex this was a solid experience. No outstanding flaws. Prompt refund was given on accidentally purchased extra ticket.

I haven't been to National and Village in a while, but they used to have the opening curtain tradition too, which adds a touch of class.

Only downside is that Westwood parking is never good; most patrons would have to go for the paid lots.

Crowds are good, with lots of students. Big movie events are a blast, and of course a lot of movie premieres there if you want to catch celebrity sightings.

Seats are not great.

I think this person must be mistaken. The Nuart was recently remodeled; it's got beautiful seats and fantastic programming. While there isn't a parking lot, there is always heaps of parking on Sawtelle just a block down. This is one of the nicest theatres in Los Angeles, and the only one with consistently awesome midnight shows as well.

Sorry you feel so down on the New Bev. If you've been there lately they have a new screen, better projection and upgraded sound.

Yes the seats are still rough, but the admission is nearly half of the Arclight for a double bill. There is no attempt to gouge patrons either at the boxoffice or concession. Parking is poor since the neighborhood has erected limited parking in the past years.

At least the theater struggles on and tries to present a varied collection of new and old films. I have seen many directors and actors speak at screenings at the New Bev.

The big screen in 35mm is still better then nearly any home theater set up.

I am sorry, but you are completely wrong. The sound and picture is always fantastic. The sound exceeds the Arclights'. The crowd can be annoying on Saturday nights, but that's why you avoid the place. The food is great and they serve you in the theatre!

WAY overpriced. And parking is a flat $2 so carpool rather than meeting at the theatre.

Projection quality is middling to poor. Picture quality slightly average and sound is above average. Audience quality is often awful.

There is always plenty of parking and plenty of showings though. No student discounts on Fridays and Saturday is wretched. Second most expensive theatre in LA and no where near worth it.

The secret to seeing a film in movie-hungry Los Angeles is to not see it at the best movieplex theatre. I watch 90% of my films at this cinema. One because of it's proximity and central location in Century City and Two because the crowds here dwarf inc omparison to THE GROVE which is the worst theatre complex in the world. Welcome to hell, this is the worst parking garage of all time, Avoid this theatre because you'll need to arrive an hour early to find parking in the garage if you go to any showing on the weekend. weekdays are not bad, but it can take up to ten minutes to find your car and then another twenty to find out how to get out of the parking garage since they close most of the exits after 9. and if you forget to validate it will cost you twelve dollars for two hours, with validation it's free. Guess how I learned that one. It's also virtually impossible to find your way around the shopping center and I've been there a dozen times. Mazelike, horrendous place.

The theatre itself is probably the second best multiplex in LA (after Arclight, ahead of Grove) it's cheaper than the Grove (still overpriced) but doesn't take Group Activity tickets except on select older films, they do have student discounts though. Picture Quality and Sound Quality are the best of any multiplex other than the arclight. Projection has always been excellent, which is more than you can say for the Grove. The only reason to go is for the pre-noon $6 showings on Saturday and Sunday. Audiences are acceptable.

Great theatre, the workers have to dress up in bellhop costumes though, fantastic picture and sound, great seating, Third and fourth rows are my favorite in most of these theatres.

Projection is usually well above average bordering on excellent.

Audiences are respectful.

Overpriced, but they will accept Group Activity Tickets for any movie except the newest releases for primetime Friday and Saturday showings.

Grove will usually run up to five minutes of commercials before getting to the trailers. on top of charging the third highest rate in LA.

Better than it used to be, but the screen stays the same size no matter what ratio the picture is, so every 2.35 film is cropped. Screens are stained, theatre audience is awful. Good for midnight shows.
