Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I write this blog because I have always loved going to the movies. I love the magic of the shared experience. I love to lose myself in a larger-than-life fantasy.

During the 70s and 80s, I saw film after film where, as I walked out of the theatre, I excitedly pondered - When can I go see that again?

In recent years, this question occurs maybe once a year. (2007 - Ratatouille)

Most often, my response is one of the following:
- I wish I didn't just spend 2 hours watching that.
- Well, that was ok, but I'll never see it again.

But tonight I walked out of a movie thinking this:

I really should consider giving up on movies altogether.

What about when Mutt 'Henry Jones III' Williams is swinging from the trees like Tarzan?

That was almost as good as when Marion drove her truck over the cliff onto a tree, and then used it to fly-swat the Russians off of the cliff-side.

Sad Jonsey...

I've found that the only way I can stomach most movies these days are by going with the kids. I wish I had gone with the kids to see Indy. Because then every time I wanted to roll my eyes, I could have looked over at them being totally transfixed. Instead, I saw it with another adult and nearly made myself dizzy with all the eye-rolling. A couple of folks in my row actually walked out about halfway through.

Yeah, but kids are transfixed by Dragon Tales... which is actually a little better than Crystal Skull.

My kids won't be watching this crap. If I catch 'em, there'll be hell to pay!

I saw Speed Racer with them, which I would have never seen on my own. I checked my brain at the door, and let them enjoy. I probably would have had a harder time with that if it had been Indy -- with all the nostalgia and all that -- but with other movies it has mostly been okay. Well, maybe except for Underdog. *shudder*

OK, I admit, the movie wasn't any better seeing it with my kids. Though Luc cracked up when Indy punched Mac and broke his nose the first time, so that was kind of fun. Other than that, yep, it was just as awful, except there was no surprise to its awfulness. It was just plain awful.

You have my condolences. No one should have to watch that twice.

How was Pulp Fiction?

Pulp Fiction was superb on the big screen again -- hard to believe it's been nearly 15 years since I saw that on the big screen at the Ritz in Philadelphia.

Unfortunately, they didn't screen it on the really big screen, so it was a little more intimate that I would have liked. But other than that, really great.
